FOI 0052 - Medical Assessor

Thank you for your email received on the 21st of May 2025, in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by the Infected Blood Compensation Authority.

As you may be aware, the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Infected Blood Compensation Authority), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and we provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted by the Operations Directorate of the Infected Blood Compensation Authority. We can confirm that the information you have requested is held in part by the Infected Blood Compensation Authority.

Our response:

We use an organisation called 'ProMedical' who are a medical recruitment company. They source the required knowledge and expertise our Claims Managers require depending the personal circumstance of the person making a claim. Their website is Promedical.co.uk.

2. What medical field are they trained in?

Our response:

Medical professions provided by 'ProMedical' are skilled in the fields our Claim Managers require, some of the specialisms are in;

  • Haematology - for dating infections
  • Hepatology - for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C infections
  • Gastroenterology - for HIV infections

3. Have they worked as a medical assessor for medical negligence claims for hospital Trusts?

Our response:

We can confirm that the information you have requested is not held by the Infected Blood Compensation Authority.
