Overview and eligibility
If you're a family member, partner, or unpaid carer of someone who was infected, you may be eligible for compensation as an 'affected person'. The amount you can get will depend on your relationship with the infected person and how you were impacted.
Affected people are:
- partners
- parents
- children
- siblings
- unpaid carers
Your relationship with the person who was infected must have existed before 31 March 2025 or, if later, the date of their diagnosis.
Interim compensation payment
Your interim compensation amount will be deducted from the overall compensation amount you’ll receive through the Infected Blood Compensation Scheme.
If you are affected and also infected
If you have been infected and have a partner or family member who is also infected, you can make a separate claim for compensation.
If more than one person in your life has been infected, you can make separate claims for injury compensation relating to each of them.
We'll help you understand what to do
At the moment we can’t say for sure what information you might need to provide when you make your claim as an affected person. When the time comes, we’ll give you as much information as we can, as early as we can.
If you’re not sure whether your personal situation makes you eligible for compensation as an affected person, we’ll work with you so you’ll know what you might be able to claim.
You’ll have a dedicated claim manager who will help you through the process and make sure you get all the support you need.
