FOI 0065 - Infected and Estates
We write in response to your request for access to information held by the Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA). Your request was passed to us by Emma in the Enquiries team and has been considered under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 ('FOIA').
The purpose of the FOIA is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
You asked the following:
Could you also confirm figures of those Infected and Estates who are registered with a scheme? I read a response online by Nick Thomas-Symonds and he quotes 3500 living Infected are registered and 500 Estates have received interim payments.
Our response:
We have conducted searches of our records and can confirm that IBCA only partly holds the information you have requested.
Regarding your question about the number of infected people registered with an Infected Blood Support Scheme, there were around 3,500 people registered with one of these Schemes. The exact number of living infected people registered with one of the Infected Blood Support Schemes changes slightly on a very regular basis, so we have provided an approximate number of around 3,500 people.
Regarding your question about the number of Estates registered with a Scheme, IBCA does not hold this data for the England, Wales or Northern Ireland Infected Blood Support Schemes because it has not been provided to IBCA.
However, we do hold this information from the Scottish Infected Blood Support Scheme (SIBSS). Within SIBSS, we currently hold data on 240 Registered Estates.
