Registration and compensation progress update: 9 April 2026

Published 9 April 2026
From: Infected Blood Compensation Authority

Today (9 April 2026) we have released our latest registration and compensation figures.

All the figures on this page are correct as of 7 April 2026.

Registration progress

IBCA opened the register your intent service on 9 October 2025.

Since then, we have received 18,053 registrations of intent to make a compensation claim with us.

This figure represents individual registrations, not unique people or claims. This is because some people may have registered more than once.

Where fewer than 10 people have registered in a reporting period, we don't report the increase to protect people's privacy and make sure no one can be identified.

Of this number there have been:

  • 1,194 registrations of intent from a living infected person, or their representative (this does not include those claiming as living with infection and registered with a support scheme, as they should already have been contacted beforehand)
  • 14,005 registrations of intent from a living affected person, or their representative
  • 336 registrations of intent relating to a living infected and affected person, or their representative
  • 2,518 registrations of intent from people acting on behalf of a deceased infected person

Compensation progress

People asked to begin compensation claims

Where fewer than 10 people have been contacted or started the claim process in a reporting period, we don't report the increase to protect people's privacy and make sure no one can be identified.

A total of 3,942 people have been asked to start their claim. This includes:

  • 3,626 living infected people registered with an existing support scheme;
  • 140 living infected people who have never been compensated;
  • 96 people acting on behalf of a deceased infected person;
  • 80 affected people.

Of this number, 3,754 have started the claim process. This includes:

  • 3,485 living infected people registered with an existing support scheme;
  • 121 living infected people who have never been compensated;
  • 82 people acting on behalf of a deceased infected person;
  • 66 affected people.

Compensation offers

So far, 3,273 people have received an offer.

The total value of offers made is £2,631,418,363.29.

People paid

A total of 3,161 people have had their compensation paid.

Those who have chosen to continue receiving payments from their existing support schemes for life, with an additional compensation amount from IBCA, are described as the ‘adjusted’ route.

Those who have chosen to receive all of their compensation in a one-off compensation payment directly from IBCA, and no longer receive regular support scheme payments for life, are described as the ‘core’ route.

Payment routeNumber of people paid
People paid by adjusted route1,810
People paid by core route1,351
Total people paid3,161

Compensation paid

A total of £2,057,693,699.09 has been paid to people.
