- The event was a chance for people living in and around Merseyside to informally meet IBCA staff face-to-face to ask questions about infected blood compensation
- Ian Byrne, Liverpool West Derby MP, attended the event
Around 100 people attended the community drop-in event held in the heart of Liverpool on Tuesday 12 May. Local people impacted by the infected blood scandal were able to get insight into the infected blood compensation service, and share their experiences with the team from IBCA.
A community member who attended said:
“Thank you to the IBCA staff who I was very fortunate to meet and discuss my questions with. I found it very emotional and they really looked after me. Thank you.”
Another community member said:
“I attended the event with my wife. We were unsure what to expect. However we were greeted and treated superbly. We cannot fault the professionalism of the people involved. They were most helpful and informative. All our questions were answered. We were helped enormously by the staff who dealt with us.”
The event was the latest in a number of drop-in sessions IBCA is holding across the UK. Members of the IBCA team were on hand to answer questions alongside IBCA’s CEO David Foley and Chief Operating Officer Sindy Skeldon.
Speaking after the event, David Foley said:
“Thank you to all of the community members who took the time to come and meet with us at our community in-person event in Liverpool.
“These events are a valuable opportunity for IBCA staff to meet community members in-person, listen to their concerns and be able to directly answer their questions.
“The most important thing for us is that community members leave our events feeling heard, supported and more reassured about what comes next, whether they are in the middle of the process, waiting to start their claim or not yet registered with us.”
MP for Liverpool West Derby, Ian Byrne also attended the event to understand how IBCA was supporting members of his constituency.
IBCA will hold sessions in Belfast and Cardiff in June. To attend these events visit IBCA’s website at ibca.org.uk/events
